Affordable Housing: NIMBY or YIMBY?

April 30, 2019 • K&L Gates LLP, 599 Lexington Avenue, New York — Ellen Sinreich and ULI New York hosted a panel discussion on the dynamics involved in increasing affordable housing throughout neighborhoods in New York City. Often there are two opposing viewpoints when it comes to developing new housing: Not In My Back Yard (NIMBY) or Yes In My Back Yard (YIMBY). This panel explored these conflicting viewpoints and addressed questions such as: What are the real impacts of rezoning efforts that allow greater development? What are the negative impacts? What are the benefits? Who is pushing back and why? How can the negative impacts be mitigated?
